Top Surgery is Scheduled!!!

I had my consultation yesterday with Dr. Keelee MacPhee, the top surgeon in Durham that two of my trans friends recommended. I guess it’s no surprise that she and one other surgeon are the only ones in my area that actually specialize in FTM top surgery. I was really pleased with how my consultation went, and feel very confident having her as the person who is going to drastically change the structure of my chest — to what I’ve always wanted to have.

Shortly after hanging up with Dr. MacPhee, I was able to speak with her administrator, who gave me the BEST news of the year — my top surgery is scheduled for September 2nd!!! I was shocked that it could be that soon — less than 6 weeks away! I just knew that COVID-19 would cause it to be pushed out at least 6 months.

For those who may want to have some idea of what the cost is, here’s a breakdown. Keep in mind these are the costs for Dr. MacPhee. I can’t speak for any other surgeon. I do know that the one in Charlotte charges considerably more.

• Surgeon fee — $3780.00 — must be paid 7 days prior to surgery
• Anesthesia fee — $1896.00 — must be paid 7 days prior to surgery
• Facility fee — $2822.69 — must be paid 7 days prior to surgery
• Pathology bill — $1200.00 — Bill will be sent after surgery
• Surgical facility scheduling fee — $500.00 (non-refundable)

I will have to be there for about 2 hours prior to surgery, and the surgery itself should take 2–3 hours. My pre-op appointment is on August 20th.

September 2nd will be one of the BEST days of my entire life. Though I’m really nervous, I am equally as excited.
