I Didn’t Need It, Utah, But Thanks for This Reminder That I Was Smart to Leave You After Coming Out as a Transgender Woman

I haven’t paid attention to Utah politics since moving in March 2023 from the state to Los Angeles. Thus, I didn’t learn when they did that Utah GOP’ers passed an anti-transgender bathroom bill. I really didn’t need it, but thanks to Republican legislators and Gov. Spencer Cox for the reminder that I was smart to leave the state after coming out as a transgender woman. (Great last name for someone who signed such a bill, no?)

I honestly didn’t see a bathroom bill coming. LA is both just on the other side of a desert from loved ones and one of the world’s great cities. (That’s something that Salt Lake City nor anywhere in Utah can claim. In AP Style, “Los Angeles” is so major, it doesn’t even need “Calif.” behind it.) That said, I moved here first and foremost so that I could access gender-affirming care. (Politics impacts insurance why?)

Am I too upset? I remain this upset despite having learned about Cox’s Jan. 30, 2024 bill signing 10 months ago.
