Mapbox is an open-source library that provides a live-updating map that developers can use to build better mapping, navigation, and search experience across platforms. This service has also a premium option for platforms with more than 25,000 active users monthly.

At BeeReal we used this technology in a 9-month project to map +50,000 points of interest, allowing us to enhance the user experience based on realistic expectations. One of the best features of this technology is the possibility to customize several of the tools that the SDK provides. This allows devs to personalize the library to our client’s needs. Mapbox is a great library that we apply to our projects that need map services.

Our devs created a custom search engine with filters and a category-based approach that understands real users’ language. This process was possible after much usability testing that improves the natural language-based processing search engine. The integration of a third party location API for the city, district and province level search result filtering was crucial to the success of the project.

Julián works in our techlab and participated in a large-scale project using Mapbox technology and he shares his thoughts:

“The main challenge of this project was that many of the features that we needed to apply in the map weren’t part of the library as-is, so we had to develop them ourselves.”

Our team also contacted Dom Brassey @mapbox Documentation and Developer Relations who felt enthusiasm about what we were building. We are in talks to schedule a live stream on Mapbox’s Twitch account to elaborate on our work.

This technology can be used across multiple industries and it’s a huge opportunity to digitize already existing services. BeeReal’s tech lab is continually growing.
