A Kindergarten Love Story
Cherish it all
Once upon a time, a little boy came home raving to his mother about a pretty and smart little girl he had a crush on. It was special, his very first one. The mom’s heart would melt as she witnessed her son’s sweet smile and red cheeks while talking about the girl.
“Today, Carissa was helping me with my math, Mom,” he said as his eyes lit up. Mom began to smile and her ears perked up.
“Oh, that’s so nice of her!” She held back a small urge to tease him.
“Yeah, it is. I just wanted to hug her though, Mommy! — But I couldn’t because you have to keep your hands to yourself in school!”
And for a moment, for moments like these, the mother thought the rule shouldn’t exist. Her heart felt sad for her son as she, more than anyone else in the world, knew how enormously difficult it was for her loving son to hold back that hug from the little girl who was helping him.
She did the only thing she could. She wrapped him in her arms and squeezed as tight as she could without expelling all the air from his tiny body.
“This hug is from Carissa!”
The little boy laughed, “Thanks, Mom” as he turned and gave her a huge kiss on her forehead, “but only you can hug me like that!”
A joyful tear rolled down her face, and she knew she’d always remember this kindergarten love story
Slowing it down and capturing the moments. It really does go way too fast.
