The Truth About a Day
A poem
As a baby sprouts, stretches
Into the light of day
Some may say goodbye
Gliding up the lit airway
Others may proclaim their love
Like the Sun does daily to the sky above
And like the Sun departs
Many will fall apart
And because some things need to be together
There will be building
Towers upon towers
Of many loved and broken hearts
And how many thoughts
Collectively —
Pondered
Worried
Aching
Empathizing
Understanding
In the moment
Between all of us
Mistakes are made
Today another take
Turn the lights on
Awareness glimmers in the dark
Into the unknown
Lights off
Tons of steps without a spark
Smiles a cover up for what is wrong
Joyful laughter echoes
Off drawings on a wall
A writer seizes the day
Another child fetches water
Far, far away
Fairytales are told
Monsters sleep in beds
The smell of fire
Souls are hurting
The burning is coming
From up a head
And in the next
There is nothing —
But a dream
In a soft blessed bed
The truth about the day
No matter what comes our way
The way we spin it
We had it —
Tells the trajectory of our orbit.
