BeetsDAO: Season 00

Deep in the realm of the Ethereum blockchain, a group of misfits, punks, capitalists and artists came together to form BeetsDAO.

At the time, the mission to be a participant in the nascent world of NFTs attracted us to the bright lights of collecting. We became the largest owner of Eulerbeats.

But, as things are with visionary people, our ideas became bigger than the box we could buy from. The market was filled with ideas, but OUR ideas felt like they needed more exploration. And our identity began to emerge around the ideas that united us.

Transforming from a collector DAO (“Decentralized Autonomous Organization) to a builder DAO has quietly been our mission.

Moving beyond investment returns, we think deeply about shared incentives, individual advancement. Designing a space for productive fun with our dreams and freedom to fail. To us, these are the hallmarks of decentralized experimentation with powerful shared incentives possible only on the blockchain.

Our Web3 family needs fun, inspiration, and tools for exploration. It deserves large-scale efforts anchored to Web3 principles. The term “Decentralized Disney” has come up more than once from within our DAO and the public sphere. But what does that mean and what problems can that concept solve?

1. The Dreamer

The Dreamer comes up with all kinds of ideas, wishes, and fantasies. Whether big or small, wild or charming, inside or outside the box, anything goes. Nothing is filtered. The Dreamer doesn’t sweat the details nor do they make excuses for why it won’t work. They have one task and one task only: Get the ideas on paper and out there into the world.

2. The Realist

The Realist then shows up and turns the Dreamer’s idea into something more practical and achievable. They examine how to make the idea happen, by organizing and sorting, by considering feasibility, and by clarifying and simplifying the essence of the idea.

3. The Critic

The Critic is the person nobody wants around, but without whom great ideas can go down in a sea of mediocrity and confusion. The Critic rigorously evaluates the ideas and asks the tough questions. No stone is left unturned. No option unexplored. They will challenge the premises and assumptions made, find the weaknesses, and question whether the idea is even good enough.

We need all three to make a creative ecosystem viable. We need all three to dream about the future of Web3; to enable creators and audiences to come together. DAOs have largely been seen and structured as special purpose vehicles with flat, weakly accountable hierarchies; with members evaluated by their skills and available time to work. We see the potential for so much more.
