Compared to other minimalist apps the Before Launcher offers a healthier variety of customizations and so it is always a treat for us to see what users are doing with those options. We’ll be periodically sharing on Medium some real-life examples of what we call ‘usings’.

A Designer’s Tour of Before Launcher Capabilities

This first ‘using’ is seen in a 6-minute YouTube video, “My Minimal Phone Setup” and the particular customizing is very well done but, wow, this user does a great job explaining the Before Launcher mission of helping users take back their time and attention.

The Small-But-Not-Dumb Phone

Next up: a 13-minute video from the increasingly popular realm of dumb phones — “How I Transformed the World’s Smallest Android Phone into a ‘Dumbphone’ — Unihertz Jelly Star Review”. It turns out Before Launcher is a great match for these small Android devices. Of course, this compact form factor isn’t going to work for everyone but more and more frequently we are seeing this pairing of the Before app with devices such as the Unihertz Jelly and Cat S22. Note: even if your phone has the typical larger display this video may show you some useful approaches to setting up yourself and your device for a more mindful, intentional experience.
