13th March — Discovery of Uranus
Our universe has many secrets that represent many ways to study the future and past of our universe. They have been revealed one after another from time to time.
These secrets could be anything such as planets, stars, a new galaxy, or an entire universe. But we care the most that are somehow attached to our earth.
Our solar system plays a very important factor in the study and research of the universe and many scientists have been continuously trying to find something new in space.
What would happen if we find out a new planet in our solar system? it would be a great discovery for the entire world. Such a discovery astonished the world when Uranus was found.
So, what is Uranus?
It is one of the planets in our solar system, specifically saying, it is the 7th planet in our solar system. It was the 13th of March 1781 when a scientist named William Herschel identified it.
First, he thought of it as a comet because it was moving in outer space but after some time recognized it as a planet. In the beginning, all the other scientists thought of it as a star and did not believe that it can be a planet.
It took a long time, approx. 2 years for the scientists and astronomers to study and research the unknown planet. And finally, they believed it was a planet. It was 1783 when Herschel finally announced it as a planet.
Announcing it as a planet and giving it a name took them a huge time. They had a debate on deciding a name for the planet as it will be permanent for the entire future.
First, they thought of naming it George’s star but astronomers were not so cool with the name as it was named after King George III. Later, Johann Bode named it Uranus after the ancient Greek god of the sky. It was the year 1850 when the planet was named Uranus.
There have been many things in outer space that still need to find and planets are one of them. They will be discovered in the future but the question arises that are the solar system planets are all discovered and if not then why we are not able to get a clue about it?
