222 journalism students achieve NCTJ gold standard, latest data shows
The best performing NCTJ-accredited courses are being celebrated as the NCTJ publishes results tables for 2019–20.
In the 2019–20 academic year, 222 students on accredited courses achieved the gold standard of A-C grades in all modules and shorthand at 100 words per minute, if taken.
The multimedia journalism course at News Associates Manchester in partnership with Plymouth Marjon University is named the best performing course overall, achieving an outstanding 100 per cent gold standard rate from the seven students on course.
News Associates London has also come out on top for having the best performing independent fast-track course.
Celebrations are in order for City of Wolverhampton College, which has been named the top performing further education course for the tenth year running.
The best performing higher education courses in 2019–20 were at the University of Kent, for their BA journalism course, and St Mary’s University, for their MA sports journalism course.
Emma Robinson, accreditation manager at the NCTJ, said: “Congratulations to those centres whose courses have come out as the top performing in the NCTJ results tables for the 2019–20 academic year.
“It really has been a challenging year for all tutors to adapt to teaching online, but we have seen amazing commitment from all involved on NCTJ-accredited courses to ensure students experience unrivalled expertise and training while delivered remotely. Plus, they have continued to provide pastoral support to students and have worked hard to deliver NCTJ exams remotely.
“All our students should be rightly proud of their achievements this year and their dedication to their journalism education.”
