BLN jobs board: Is your next job in local news here?

Welcome to our first round-up of jobs going in the regional press in 2019…

Regional Sports Editor — Lancashire/Bolton

We are on the hunt for a talented sport editor to join our team in Lancashire — working across four websites, two daily titles and two paid-for weeklies.

You will work with our talented sports journalists at the Bolton News and Lancashire Telegraph, covering the Premier League and EFL as our clubs — Burnley FC, Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers — strive for success and fight for survival on and off the pitch.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years’ experience working in the newsroom or on a sport desk, either as a senior reporter or news/sports/web editor, looking to take the next step. You could work in print, online or broadcast — but importantly, you’ll have the desire to lead and succeed.

You will be at home on social media, understand how to website analytics — e.g. Chartbeat/CrowdTangle/in-house platforms — and be just as comfortable setting up a Facebook live broadcast or launching a new podcast as you would be ripping up the back page of tomorrow’s paper on deadline.

You will need in-depth knowledge of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

You will be NCTJ qualified (or equivalent) with a full clean drivers licence and, as you would expect with sport, this role will involve some weekend and evening working.

Experience of managing staff is desirable but not essential — but the desire to lead a successful team is essential.

Please apply with letter and CV to lisa.schofield@nqnw.co.uk by Friday, January 18.
