A hyperlocal news site is expanding into football coverage after linking up with a local fanzine.

Blog Preston, which recently bolstered its what’s on and cultural coverage after a successful crowd fundraiser, has announced coverage of Preston North End will begin on site next month.

Features from the fanzine, owned by Chris Black, will be published on Blog Preston, giving them an online presence for the first time.

Chris, owner of The Nose Bag, said: “I’m happy to be working with Blog Preston to bring PNE coverage to their site for the first time.

“It’s a big step for The Nose Bag, something I do just as a hobby and love for the club — even in the rough times — and I hope it just helps get what we do to even more people.”

Luke Beardsworth, co-editor of Blog Preston and a former editor of LancsLive, said: “It’s remarkable that Chris — with no background in journalism — has pulled all this together out of pure passion and drive from his home in Preston. That’s the sort of person anyone would want to work with.

“PNE coverage has long been the most obvious missing thing from what we do at Blog Preston and it’s nice to be able to remedy that.”

Blog Preston was keen to stress it wasn’t seeking to compete with coverage provided by the Lancashire Post, which employs a dedicated North End writer, and won’t be filing match reports or attending press conferences.

We won’t replicate what George Hodgson does at the Lancashire Post — there won’t be match reports and we won’t attend press conferences for the time being.
