JPIMedia announces new team to focus on grassroots sports coverage
Experienced sports journalist Mark Dunford will lead a newly created team that will focus on providing grassroots sports coverage for JPIMedia’s titles and websites across England.
Mark has been appointed Head of Community Sport and will oversee a team of around 30 grassroots sports reporters covering local sport across the country.
Mark’s new job sees him take the most senior role in JPIMedia’s new Community Sport Team which has been set up to provide the best possible grassroots sport coverage across all of the company’s daily and weekly titles, and their associated websites in England.
Further senior roles are being created and appointments will be made in the next few weeks.
Mark, 40, has worked for the company for 20 years and moves into his new role from his previous position as sports editor for JPIMedia’s Sussex titles.
He began his career with the company as deputy sports editor at the Eastbourne Herald in 1999.
Since then he has held various roles in the company, including in news and production teams.
However, he has always had a keen interest in sport — especially grassroots sport.
Alongside his current day job, Mark is also an important member of a company-wide team examining all aspects of content and how it can be improved.
He said: “I am delighted to have the opportunity to shape a new team and am also delighted to work with so many people who are passionate about community and grassroots sport.
“As the team and structure take shape we will be looking at how we can improve our community sport offering and look at sharing relevant and important content across relevant papers and websites.”
