A local news website has launched two new membership tiers as it aims to build new relationships with local organisations.

The Great Central Gazette, which covers Leicester, has launched its Advocate and Visionary tiers. It says they are ‘designed to empower organisations of all sizes to engage more deeply with our community and enhance their impact on a local level.’

The Advocate tier is tailored for organisations with an annual income of less than £50,000, whereas Visionary is for groups with an annual income of more than £50,000.

The price for Advocate is £8 per month or £86.40 per year. The price for Visionary is £10 per month or £108 per year. Annual prices include a 10 per cent discount.

“We believe that every organisation, regardless of size, should have the opportunity to engage with our community and contribute to our mission,” said Rhys Everquill at The Gazette.

“With the Advocate and Visionary tiers, we are committed to providing tailored support and resources that empower our members to thrive.”

The Gazette was launched in March 2023 by Emma Guy, Rhys Everquill and Megan Lupton. Emma and Rhys recently announced they had become the online newspaper’s first paid team members.

It is funded as a co-operative, with readers being asked to donate from £2 a month to help support it.

Any group can join The Gazette, regardless of legal form or incorporation status. This includes unregistered community groups and collectives.

The new tiers follow The Gazette’s March Annual General Meeting (AGM) where Employee and Reader Members approved a legal rule change to allow Group Members.

Membership in both tiers is now open, and organisations are encouraged to join and take advantage of these exciting new benefits. For more information on how to become a member, visit www.greatcentralgazette.org/membership or contact info@greatcentralgazette.org.

Benefits include:

  • Reserved places on the board of directors for group members, ensuring that local organisations have a voice in our decision-making processes.
  • Priority access to sponsorship space in our weekly newsletter, along with reduced rates to make it even more affordable.
  • A 50 per cent discount for employees wishing to join individually (certain limits apply), making it easier for teams to participate.
  • Unique networking opportunities with readers and other members, fostering collaboration and community building.
