A city website has relaunched with a promise to focus on ordinary people and their extraordinary stories.

Manchester World, part of the National World stable of titles, unveiled a new look on Monday.

Editor Adam Lord told readers: “There are so many ordinary Mancs with extraordinary tales to tell — whether they drive your tram, run your favourite boozer or are helping run the country.

“Whether it’s covering the city’s ongoing transformation, its world-class culture, rich heritage or two institutions that matter so much to the people of Manchester — United and City — we won’t be shy of sharing an opinion while also looking to inform and heck, maybe even entertain from time to time.

“I’m lucky enough to be leading the team and would love to hear what you think — especially if you know an ordinary Manc with an extraordinary story.”

Among the first stories published by the new-look site include spending time in new deputy PM Angela Rayner’s constituency to find out what locals think of her, and finding out why Stockport really needs a tram.

The new masthead uses the Manchester city centre skyline for its inspiration.

Manchester World, based on the 24th floor of a city centre towerblock with sister publication Insider Media, is one of a number of local news brands competing for the attention of readers, since launching three years ago.

The Manchester Evening News continues to be one of the largest news websites in the country, while independent news site The Manc pitches itslf as ‘the people’s voice of Greater Manchester.’

Manchester is also the home to the first paid newsletter in the Mill Media portfolio, with the Manchester Mill launching during the pandemic and now boasting thousands of paying subscribers receiving its long-form journalism every week.
