The newsroom that’s now in a brewery … what could go wrong?

You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.

But a journalist to a bar is a different story.

And Mansfield Chad staff are having to avoid temptation on a daily basis after relocating to a new office — above a micropub.

After five years based at a business park on the edge of the town, the Chad team have relocated back into the town centre, into the historic Mansfield Brewery offices, aptly called CHADburn House.

Mansfield Brewery shut in 2002, when brewing was switched to Wolverhampton, but the local Prior’s Well Brewery has taken up the mantle and opened a cafe, micropub and brewery in the ground-floor of the building — bringing brewing back to the historic site after 17 years, and conveniently just a couple of flights of stairs from the Chad office.

Jon Ball, Chad head of content, said: “The new office is perfect. It’s just a five-minute walk to the town centre, close to Mansfield Town FC, the magistrates’ court and council offices. The proximity of the micropub is just an added bonus and definitely had nothing at all to do with our decision to move here.”
