How I Boosted My Shopify Sales by $61,482 with one Simple App Banner

In this blog post, I’ll reveal how I used one simple app to increase my revenue by over $60k. And the best part is, anyone can do it. Here’s how.

If you’re like me, you’re always looking for ways to boost your Shopify sales and grow your online business.

But let’s face it: it’s not easy to find effective strategies that don’t require a ton of time, money and effort.

Imagine my surprise when I was able to easily increase my sales by $61,482 in just one year. That’s an average of $5,123 per month!

And the best part? It was super simple, quick and easy. I didn’t have to spend hours tweaking my website, creating new products or running ads.

All I did was install one simple app that changed everything.

Curious? Keep reading to find out what it is and how it works!

The challenges we faced and why we needed a solution

I run an ecommerce business with my business partner that makes 7 figures per year.

We sell mostly other people’s brands on our online store, our margins are decent but not amazing.

One of the challenges we faced was how do we increase our average order value? How do we make the money we’re spending on advertising more worthwhile?

Something I am sure anyone running a store has thought about.

This is especially important if you’re spending thousands of dollars per month on Google ads, Facebook Ads and TikTok like we are.

The more value we can offer our customers, the more value we can get in return from them.

Another challenge we face is we have a decent size catalogue (around 2,000–3,000 products). When someone comes to your store it's important that you capture their attention fast.

We have quite a number of competitors in our space, so I am constantly monitoring making sure we’re competitive.

Ready to find out what it is? Let’s dive in! ➡️

I remember visiting one of my competitors websites and noticing they had a frequently bought together section on their product pages just under the buy button.

Theirs was far superior to the standard Shopify recommended products that you see time and time again.

This frequently bought together was more actionable, more relevant and was smart too!

Offering smart bundle options on products people would actually want to buy at a discount and it did this on its own.

So, I quickly opened a browser extension called Koala Apps.

For anyone that doesn’t know, Koala Apps allows you to see if a store is using Shopify, what apps they’re using and other important information.

Anyone whose interested in setting up and using Koala Apps, check out my previous step-by-step guide here:

Anyways, once I ran the tool. I found the app!

I then went to their Shopify app page, everything looked great. Good reviews, good features and really amazing price.

Frequently Bought Together Shopify App by Code Black Belt

Not all Shopify apps are created equal. Some of them charge you a hefty fee based on a percentage of your sales, even if they don’t directly contribute to those sales. That’s not fair, right?

Not this one though, it is very affordable at only $9.99 USD / per month for unlimited bundles with a generous free trial.

The app does exactly what it sounds like: it shows potential customers what other products they might want to buy along with the one they’re looking at. Say for example you’re selling shampoo, on your shampoo product page under the buy now button it would have a bundle option for shampoo and conditioner.

It’s a super simple way to cross-sell and increase your average order value.

One of the features of the app that really caught my eye was that it scanned past orders and automatically creates product bundles on each of your product pages using this data. But it would also continue to learn as new orders came in and optimise itself automatically over time.

For someone with a lot of products and not much time on their hands, this sounded great!

Within the app you can also set automatic discounts for the bundles it creates, with our margins already low we decided to only give a small discount of 2% to customers who bought these bundles. We plan to increase this and do some more testing. Stay tuned!

We’ve had the app running for a year now, here are the results 💡

Frequently Bought Together App 12-month results

Honestly, looking back. I knew this app would be good, but I didn’t realise it would be THIS good.

With very minimal work and setup (the app handles most of it).

We generated an additional $61,482 in extra sales, selling 834 items not doing anything extra except adding this simple $9.99/month app.

The app cost us a total of $119.88 over 12 months. That means for every $1 we spent on the app, we generated over $500 in sales. It’s hard to find value this good!

Amazing, right?

Here’s the link to the apps Shopify Page for anyone that’s interested.

Please note I am not affiliated with any of the apps mentioned in this post, these are simply tools that I myself use.
