Pronoun: Update

In August, I wrote an article about pronouns, saying I would take anything.

In October, I wrote another article about pronouns, still saying that, but putting “he” low on the list.

Today, I’m taking “he” (back) off the list entirely. I’ve decided I absolutely do not like it. There are reasons I’m still exploring, and which I may or may not ever elaborate publicly on, but… no “he”. Anything else, I guess.

I like “ey/em/eir/emself”, but that seems like an uphill climb that’s just not that important to me. So “they/them/their/themself” is fine. Those two are preferred. “She” is a good third choice.

I’ll still take just about anything else, as I said in my October article. Even “it”.

Ey, they, anything but he. I think and write often about social equity. I teach high school mathematics. I have a bunch of articles on The Good Men Project.
