Dear Youtube, please Kiss me Goodnight!
Sometimes I wakeup with my specs on, lights on, my main door open and a high intense action movie climax still playing. Yes, I can sleep with music playing in the background. But, that’s not the case with most of them I guess.
At least, not with my little one.
We put gentle lullaby music on for my little one to fall asleep in the night. Since the player/speakers are in another room, the volume is high enough to reach us. The song is soothing and it doesn’t matter if the volume is a notch high. Some of these songs are only on Youtube and not on any other streaming apps.
So the child, is about to sleep, gently, lashing the eyelids, sloooowwwlyyy closing the eyes to fall into the sweet sleep, a moment worth a million bucks and then…
“ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC” with pumping beats at a high volume enough to wakeup the whole neighbourhood at 12:30AM in the night plays to advertise about the party wear shirt or “TRANCE MUSIC” at 240BPM to advertise about new car.
Running across a house in pitch dark without tumbling over a galaxy of toys on the floor just to press that one little button “ SKIP AD” in itself is a special skill.
Dear Youtube, please Kiss me Goodnight, by somehow making my sleeping experience better with music on. I understand that to play these songs for free we need Ads.
But, can you
- detect that its night ( the time of the day )
- or detect the choice of songs that are playing ( BPM ) and match it with the ads music
( I wouldn’t mind a Spa advertisement with Zen meditation music in the middle of the night)
- or run a special full-length mute ads without the Skip button
- or make Youtube premium available in India.
In general can we improve the experience around Ads, to make them consumable by studying user behaviours. I guess already machine learning companies are at it.
