“I could never in a hundred summers get tired of this.” — Susan Branch

Love
the sights
Of summer
Mangoes, sweet corn
Calling passersby
To savor, enjoy them
Bite into their juiciness
Feel the pleasant sting of spices
As we bask, lazily in the sun
Reluctant to leave . . . another round, please?

There’s nothing like the summer sights in India. Amid the cacophony of children’s voices and adult conversations, street vendors are out in force everywhere, selling mangoes, cucumbers, corn on the cob, and various other “delicacies”, irresistible to both adults and children alike. Of course, there are also colorful juice vendors for those who are thirsty. The sight is always attractive, always tempting. As we walk down the path trying to decide what to sample, we are also well on our way down nostalgia street, reminiscing about “those” days with childhood pals.

Thank you to B.R. Shenoy for introducing me to the etheree poem — a poem where each line grows in syllable count from 1 through 10. Here is hers:

I love Medium and the wonderful writers I engage with. Sadly, the Medium Partner Program is not open to writers based in India. One of the reasons I write is to support underprivileged children. Would you consider buying me a cup of coffee? ☕ Thank you so much!
