Summertime
A series of short stories
Summertime, my favorite season. Bleached blonde hair, and white sand beaches. Take a break, one week or two. Return refreshed, and mind-renewed.
On a small hill near the edge of town, a man parks his car. Taking in the sights and sounds of silence and desolation, he recalls a distant memory. “Life’s better when we’re not chasing someone else’s dreams,” he murmurs.
Sunlit, two brothers build sandcastles. At dusk, admiring their creation, a tide rolls in. The next morning, at it again, a fresh start and new beginning.
A light wind rustles leaves while soft sand seeps beneath toes. Afternoons in these parts are cherished, not forgotten. Moments later, a boat appears on the horizon, carrying the day’s fresh catch. Behind, the bartender cracks open another beer.
