#GetTheWordOut deadline extended!
On the occasion of Human Rights Day the BLIC project relaunches its contest “Get the word out! Spreading the voices of LGBTI young people from the Caribbean”, inviting young people living in the Caribbean region to produce 1-minute videos expressing their concerns, aspirations and proposals to advance in the full enjoyment of their rights and freedoms.
Participants can express their successes, struggles, daily challenges, that is, both positive and/or negative life experiences because of their sexual orientation, gender identity or intersex status. In the video, they are invited to complete the following three sentences: “I advocate for…”, “I am concerned about…” and “I aspire to…”. Participants are free to use any video technique, as long as the video is no more than 60 seconds long! The BLIC project encourages you to be creative, proactive and call to action. The winner’s identity will only be revealed upon agreement.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
· Participants should be young adults between 18 and 25 years old on the day of the submission deadline (February 18, 2020).
· Participants should be nationals or permanent residents from any of the following countries: Barbados, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica and St. Lucia. The BLIC project will accept videos in Creole, English, French or Spanish.
· Deadline February 18, 2020, 00:00 a.m. Videos submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
· Participants can send their questions (if any) in English, French or Spanish to the email address lgbticaribbean@undp.org before the deadline, or as a private message on Facebook or Twitter.
· Facebook is the main platform to participate in this contest. If users do not have Facebook or prefer to remain anonymous, they can send the video to lgbticaribbean@undp.org under a pseudonym and we will publish it for themselves in our social media.
· Video format no more than 60 seconds long.
· Videos must be original and shouldn’t have been published before. The video (or any part of it) must not infringe upon any intellectual property or any other third-party rights. Please obtain and keep all necessary licenses and releases for any actors other than the contributors.
· Each participant can apply individually and send a maximum of 2 different videos.
· No purchase, expenditure or investment is necessary to enter the contest.
· For the video to be taken into account for the contest, it should meet the following requirements:
→ Tag us on your Facebook post (@lgbticaribbean)
→ Use the hashtags #BeingLGBTI #LGBTICaribbean #GetTheWordOut
→ Write a short paragraph describing the main idea of your video (+/- 200 words) in the video description
→ The video can be uploaded on Youtube or directly on Facebook
· Videos will be evaluated by an International Jury after the submission deadline.
· The award-winning video will belong to the “Being LGBTI in the Caribbean” project, which will have the right to publish it in different platforms such as social media, blog or printing materials, always acknowledging authorship. The BLIC project will respect the author’s desire of using a pseudonym or the author’s real name.
· Privacy Notice: Any personal data, collected during the course of the competition will only be used and disclosed for purposes reasonably connected with administering and promoting this competition, including certain internal and external communications related to the video contest.
· No Recourse to judicial or other procedures: To the extent permitted by law, the rights to litigate, to seek injunctive relief or to any other recourse to judicial or any other procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or in connection with this Competition are hereby excluded, and you acknowledge and agree, and expressly waive any and all such rights.
Judging
· Videos will be judged on creativity, message, effectiveness, knowledge on the subject, relevance and ability to address the target audience (youth), basic technical skills, and compliance to the Contest Rules and Regulations.
· A judging committee of staff from the “Being LGBTI in the Caribbean” project will pre-screen each of the videos and create a shortlist on the basis of the judging criteria.
· The judging panel will review the shortlisted videos and determine the winners. All decisions made by the Being LGBTI in the Caribbean staff and the judging panel with respect to eligibility or winners are final.
Prizes
· The Jury’s decision will be communicated on the BLIC social media channels before March the 15th.
· The regional winner will have the opportunity to actively participate in the LGBTI Regional Dialogue in Dominican Republic during the last semester of 2020.
→ All travel costs will be covered, and s/he will have the opportunity to present during the event to an audience of more than 200 people including representatives from civil society, international organizations, government and private sector.
→ If the winner is from the Dominican Republic, he/she/they will be offered an alternative prize, that will imply visiting other country in the Caribbean for a national or regional event related to LGBTI rights. The winner must have at least an intermediate level of English or French to make sure he/she/they make the most of the trip.
· Prizes must be accepted as awarded and cannot be transferred or substituted for cash.
· Prize might be declared void by the Jury in case there’s no participation or the videos do not meet the required quality. In contrast, the Jury might give runner-up prizes if they deem it convenient.
· The “Being LGBTI in the Caribbean” project will contact the finalists by private message on Facebook. If you wish to be contacted by phone or by email, send us the link to your video and contact details to lgbticaribbean@undp.org.
· If the “Being LGBTI in the Caribbean” project is unable to contact a finalist after five (5) attempts to do so over a one-week period from the first date of notification or attempted notification, such entrant may be disqualified, and a new entrant may be selected.
