Do you think people change? Do you believe people can have differing opinions or views over time?

During a conversation this week, my opinion was sought on a topic. Now, a few months back I would have had a different opinion on this matter, however I hesitated before answering because I was wondering what had caused this change.

One factor I attributed it to was accumulated experiences. I had been through a lot more over the months to change my opinion on that issue. I understand now that my thoughts on an issue can change.

This is not so with everyone. Statistics show that 1 in 3 persons is opposed to change.

People change and I think they should be given the opportunity to.

What are your thoughts on this?

Imagine building a product and expecting your customers or users to remain the same over the following months and years. Would you be building the right product if you cannot take changing customers?

By changing I mean differing behavioral patterns, identities, opinions or views.

A major factor leading to successful products is an acknowledgment of change over a period of time and taking these into consideration while building your product or adding features.

The world is constantly reverting to your past actions, words or opinions to judge what your current situation should be like. Remember the ‘This You’ trend on twitter? Might make sense here.

Judging, the world is constantly judging. A topic for another day.

If human beings were not allowed to change and evolve, the point behind humanity would be lost.

A thousand years ago, if change was highly opposed, would we be here today? With these many advancements in technology and humanity?

How diverse and inclusive are you in your thinking, words, actions?

People tend to think these big words apply to large corporations only, yet we forget companies are made by people. The level of thinking you have as an individual is the same level of thinking your company would think in.

There is a need to constantly adapt to this ever changing and evolving world and it starts with our thinking.

Building a diverse and inclusive product (physical, software, personal brand) starts with how you condition your mind to accept differences and changes in people.

How are you tuning your thinking to adapt to changing scenarios and build a better world?

Most importantly, are you able to accept changing opinions and views even if you disagree?

Adaptive thinking and reaction would be a top skill needed in the future. It’s already needed now and just like every other future skill you are trying to build, commit to building this form of change adaptive thinking.
