As a healthcare provider, I am acutely aware that cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality in the United States.
Every year, approximately 800,000 individuals have a heart attack.
Nearly half of us over 20 have cardiovascular disease.
February is Heart Month in the U.S., so I'm offering five key evidence-based lifestyle interventions that can mitigate heart disease risk.
1. Move
Regular physical activity offers numerous health benefits, including the following:
- Weight management
- Better blood pressure
- Cholesterol improvements
- Improved blood sugar levels
I aim for at least 2 hours and 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise weekly.
Alternatively, I shoot for a minimum of 75 minutes of vigorous activity.
