As an older athlete, I frequently hear about ice baths.

Cold therapy is having a moment.

Ice baths, cold plunges, and cryotherapy are all the rage, promising everything from reduced inflammation and faster workout recovery to mood boosts and even a longer life.

But do these icy practices live up to the hype?

Today’s essay briefly explores the science of cold therapy and its potential to improve health and well-being.
