How Intermittent Fasting Improves Your Testosterone Levels
Can intermittent fasting improve testosterone health? I asked myself that question recently since I am my own, n=1, self-experiment. I had read the published studies and understood the indirect mechanisms by which testosterone may be enhanced during and after a fast, but how real world would those results be?
Yes, during a fast, our testosterone rises to significant levels, leading to increased testosterone health in the long term. They aren’t going to turn you into the Hulk overnight. Still, when you fast consistently combined with proper training and nutrition, the testosterone rises from fasting will give you noticeable results. It’s a compound interest thing; the health biomarkers improved from fasting will help bolster your testosterone.
Fasting Increases LH Hormone
A short-term study found that fasting increases luteinizing hormone by upwards of 67%. LH hormone health is required for overall testosterone levels (1). Most of the herbal testosterone boosters on the market are actually pretty beneficial for LH hormone health which is why they are marketed as testosterone boosters. This alone won’t cause significant spikes in testosterone, but it will be helpful.
