Did you get it?

Did you guess not getting an average of seven hours of sleep nightly?

Important, yes, but not my focus today.

Maybe you surmised that I studiously avoid sleeping over nine hours?

There is truth in that observation, but it is not the subject of today’s essay.

Here’s my secret:

I try hard to avoid sleep inconsistency.

Today, I’ll explore a recent study showing that a consistent sleep routine can lower your risk of heart disease and stroke — even if you are genetically predisposed to both.

Before we discuss the fascinating new findings, I recommend listening to Jorge Luis Borges, one of my favorite writers.

Borges was reared in the then-shabby Palermo district of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and became a world-renowned poet, essayist, and short-story writer whose works became classics of 20th-century world literature.
