AMERICAN FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR DEION SANDERS recently had amputations of two toes on his left foot, followed by 23 days in the hospital.

You can find Sanders speaking about the experience in this episode of his “Coach Prime” documentary series for Barstool Sports.

His journey is harrowing: The surgeons cut off toes one and two after he needed hospitalization for blood clots. Would he lose part of his leg next? A below-the-knee amputation loomed.

Having sustained a dislocated toe with associated nerve inflammation, Sanders has a medical procedure. He later returns to the field as a coach, accompanied by a golf cart, push scooter, and crutches.

Soon after, Sander’s toes began to darken. The culprit? Three blood clots in his lower leg. Following surgery, he developed an even more frightening type of clot that clogged up a main artery of the leg.
