Thus far 2020 held countless workshops, a bootcamp and a hackathon. But it is not over! We’ve also launched the jobs portal on the Beirut AI website, contributed to the Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation and are preparing for our first ever fully online AI Bootcamp this August! Read on to find out more about each one of our current endeavors!

The New Beirut AI Job Portal

We at Beirut AI continuously strive to make AI more accessible to everyone in the Lebanese community. We want enthusiasts to help refine their skills and professionals to continue to grow in their AI career. The Lebanese tech community constantly faces an issue where talent struggles to find jobs while employers struggle to find the right talent. This is why we want to bring the demand for AI talent to the forefront and provide a place where employers and job seekers can have their demands met.

Enter the Beirut AI Job Portal! Divided into two parts, a careers page and a “Post a Job” page. On the website you can now find the new careers page. Once there, you will see a list of job vacancies posted for the AI talent in Lebanese community. The opportunities available range from freelance contracts to full-time contracts and more. Multiple Lebanese companies have posted vacancies already! You can find job posts from companies such as PersEd Connect, Decentra Tech, AI Venture Labs and more!

If you are looking to advance in your current AI career, pivot to one or kick-start it, make sure to visit Beirut AI’s Careers page to see what vacancies are open.

If you are an employer who is looking to hire a new candidate, get access to a pool of talent from Lebanon’s largest Applied AI community and visit our Post a Job page, where you can directly post your vacancies on Beirut AI’s Careers page!

Image Classification Workshop

On the 29th of June, Beirut AI conducted an Image Classification Workshop where all the profits were donated to the Lebanese Breast Cancer Foundation. The idea was pitched by the instructor of this workshop, Abdul Hamid Merii, a passionate junior data scientist at ArabGIS, who inspired us at Beirut AI. We are happy to provide workshops that help multiple communities at a time.

The workshop started out with a theoretical introduction to image classification concepts and continued with a hands on application of the theory.

In the workshop, the participants learned how to effectively use classic machine learning models to do something as, at first glance, complicated as Image Classification. They found out how to use Support Vector Machines and Decision Trees to complete an Image Classification task!

Introducing University Students to Data Science

Demand for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science skills continues to skyrocket both globally and locally and university students pursuing careers in tech are noticing. These students want to have the highest chance at employability and in something that they find interesting to pursue.

Beirut AI continues to provide introductory Data Science workshops to university students. This month, we had the pleasure of remotely conducting our “Introduction to Data Science” workshop at Rafic Hariri University (RHU) and Beirut Arab University (BAU). Students attending these workshops learned the basics of Data Science starting out with cleaning the datasets all the way to training and testing their machine learning models.

The Beirut AI August 2020 Bootcamp Goes Virtual

Thus far we have had two Beirut AI Bootcamps. A third one is on the way! We’re excited to announce that not only have our tickets sold out but for the first time the bootcamp will be 100% online!

The Beirut AI Bootcamp prides itself on providing its participants with a condensed one week program that provides them with the basics they need to kick-start their AI careers.

The topics covered range from Natural Language Processing to Time Series Analysis and many other topics in between. Attendees get a theoretical foundation in any given topic followed by a hands on project they can add to their AI portfolio. These projects both prepare them for their AI journey and makes them more attractive candidates as they can prove that they’ve practiced the theory they’ve acquired.

This time we will overcome many challenges. From the mandatory shift to a virtual bootcamp to the ever increasing electricity and internet issues in Lebanon. But we are taking every precaution we can to ensure all of you have a seamless and fruitful experience.

We are excited to see the ingenuity that the participants will demonstrate. We will see their talent in projects they create in the mini competition they will participate in at the end of the bootcamp.
