Can God really understand us?

The temptations of life.

I figured God couldn’t possibly understand

When I first became a christian I struggled with really understanding who God was. When times got hard I would think of Matthew 6:33. In that scripture it basically speaks of seeking God first, and all things will fall into place. At times I thought, But why? I figured God couldn’t possibly understand what I was going through because he wasn’t going through that same situation.

As I read the bible I realized that God does truly understand how we feel in every way. He understands our pain, sadness and temptations. Here’s why…

1.) He says it!

In Hebrews 2:18 it says

“For in that He Himself has suffered, being tempted, He is able to aid those who are tempted.”

That specific scripture talks about Jesus and how he was tempted to do sinful things just like we are tempted everyday. So therefore Jesus can “aid” us / help us, and relate to us. When we struggle, he struggles.

2.) He died a horrible death

If that wasn’t enough, let’s remember how he died. No situation that we go through can be any worse than what he endured, and he was innocent. Jesus was beaten, humiliated, mocked and spit on before his death. If no one understands your pain…I believe Jesus, the man who died so miserably can relate and understand your struggles and temptations here on earth.

“Now the men who held Jesus mocked Him and beat Him. And having blindfolded Him, they struck Him on the face and asked Him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is the one who struck You?” And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him.”

Luke 22:63- 65 NKJV

3.) He does not lie.

As humans we are capable of lying and/or just straight up changing our mind. But God doesn’t lie nor just change his mind. In fact the bible is clear on this topic. So everything he says is always true.

“God is not a man, that He should lie,…”

Numbers 23:19 NKJV

Highest king, but still he’s low enough to meet us where we are.

Bringing it back around to the scripture of Hebrews 2:18…

God is there for us and never gets tired of us leaning on him in times of temptation, sadness regret, etc.

Jesus is the highest king, but still he’s low enough to meet us where we are.

God loves you!

Have a great day Saints!

Much love,

Alex
