The Trick of making every day better than the last one!

George is on a mission to make his life better, succeed in his goals, and live a life he can be proud of. It won’t be easy, but it’s a decision he must make. This one trick can take him a long way in his mission.

Compare yourself to who you were yesterday, not to who someone else is today

It was easier for people to be good at something when we lived in small villages with few professors, a spell bee champ, a math wiz, and two mechanics; everyone had their fair share of victories.

But now most of us live in cities, there are 1000s with the same skills as you, with the spread of the internet it's not just a city, it’s 8 billion people connected.

Who cares if you decently play the guitar, you’re not Tommy Emanuel or Mike Dawes; doesn’t matter if you cook passably, there’s always a better chef; it doesn’t matter if you’re the prime minister of Canada, someone is the president of the United States.

Even in your friends, someone is fitter or smarter or has accomplished more overall, I'm not asking you to ignore them. There are some horrible singers and people who aren’t the best cooks and competition sets a helpful standard.

So where do you draw the line?

If you’re an aware human being your harshest critic is none other than you, the inner critical voice that repels mediocrity, pushes you, stresses you, and forms an unquenchable thirst for progress, especially if you realize that you’re below your potential.

There are plenty of tasteless chefs, tuneless singers, incompetent artists, poisonous bureaucrats, and out-of-tune music hurts every party, tasteless food ruins every celebration, and poorly designed buildings fall in earthquakes.

Failure is the price we pay for poor standards

Mediocrity has consequences, both real and harsh, standards are necessary.

We are not equal at every outcome, very few people are good at everything, winners don’t take all but they take most, and the bottom is not a good place to be; it’s unloving, bitter, dark, and denigrating.

If the cards are always stacked against you, perhaps the game is rigged and the one making it happen more than anything is your internal voice, telling you will never be enough.

Here’s the trick: Pay Attention

Your inner voice isn't all that bad, the trick is simple, before starting your day or ending it, maybe in the middle or on the toilet, on the bus, basically anywhere, ask a simple question with the intention of ACTUALLY answering it

“What is it that is bothering me?” “ Is that something I could fix?” and “ Would I be willing to fix it?”

Look around you, there’s a bundle of files you haven’t dealt with; how about you work on it for 20 mins?10?5?2? Just a minute works, too.

The moment you picked up that file the fear of having to deal with it went away, that’s all it is. Do this exercise today, tomorrow, and next week, and then do it forever.

Every day you will be working on improving your life, and dealing with things that bother you or make you feel lazy, incompetent, or scared, before you know it, you will be trying new things, analyzing your weaknesses, and improving yourself because now it’s a habit.

The first step towards growth begins from within, and I hope you use this blog as a trigger to take the first step toward your bright future.
