Lisa Dunk, Italian Travel Specialist

“When I was a little girl, I was entranced by my Grandmother’s photo album from her trip to Europe when she was a young woman.” — Lisa on what started it all.

Earlier this week we spoke to our Mediterranean Travel Specialist, Christine to learn more about her life in Italy, and what she does as a member of the Bella Vita Travels. Today, we’re doing the same with our Italian Travel Specialist, Lisa. Check it out below!

What does an average day look like to you?

“I like to start my day with an early run in Venice. It’s magical to see the city wake up — all the transport boats making deliveries, everyone taking their dogs for a walk before they go to work, watching the light change as the sun rises over the lagoon.

I’m a classical singer, so I spend my mornings alternating between singing and working on my computer for Bella Vita. I’m also a proud member of a fabulous women’s coop in Venice that gives traditional Venetian rowing lessons to the curious traveler. If I’m not teaching rowing, then I’m in a little row boat in the lagoon.

My new hobby is visiting small local wineries in the Veneto and hearing their family story. There is so much love, tradition, and passion that go into every bottle at these small family wineries.”

What kind of research do you do for client trips?

“My favorite part of creating itineraries for clients is the direct communication with them to learn what sparks their curiosity. The mediterranean offers infinite possibilities of things to do, see, taste, and experience. Once I start to know what they are interested in, I can communicate this their guides and other vendors.

I’ll start with researching online, and then if I can, going there myself. A friend will tell me about a new place, and then it sparks my curiosity to go there and explore! I just spent an AMAZING four days in Turin and in the Langhe Region all because a friend brought over a bottle of Barolo to dinner.”

If Lisa’s day-to-day has got you dreaming of a little more running in Venice, exploring wineries, or taking on Turin, check out what we can do for you here, and Travel Home this summer.
