As summer approaches its peak, the battle of trying to keep our make-up settled begins. The sun is shining, the temperature is rising and we are forced to face one of the worst enemies of our foundation: Humidity!

With years of experience, the Belle Senior Artists have used dozens of different products and techniques, and they have conquered the art of melt-free make up!

  1. First things first. Preparing your skin is simply a must. We cannot emphasise how much the right skin care for your specific skin type affects the outcome of your finished look. Many women struggle to recognise their skin, but finding your true skin type is an extensive topic which requires an additional post. Find the right moisturiser, search for the correct base. Always make sure you try before you buy (ask for samples!). A luxury skincare brand that we have recently discovered is Lucia Magnani, available exclusive at Harvey Nichols. If you would like a plump, hydrated complexion with blurred fine lines for the smoothest makeup application you could have ever dreamed of, then this is the skincare regime for you! One of our favourites is their Rejuvenating Serum. It is truly a dream.

2. Next: use a primer. I’m sure you have heard this millions of times before, but underestimating the power of a primer is disastrous. One of our favourite is Becca’s Ever-Matte Powerless Priming Perfector as it works perfectly for oily skin, plus it is silicone free so it won’t clog up your skin.

3. As Senior Artists we love experimenting with different texture foundations. For oily skin, one of our top recommendations for the summer is the Estēe Lauder double wear foundation. It will last throughout the day! For those with drier skin types, the Giorgio Armani luminous silk foundation works perfectly for the summer heat as it is super lightweight with great holding properties! We prefer applying foundation with a damp beauty blender. These are great tools as they pick up any excess product off the skin which is helpful as excessive amounts of foundation equals clumpy patchiness in humidity.

4. Powder your face to set your makeup. You could either go for a completely mattified look or you can lightly set your face to maintain some glow. An example of one of the best loose powders on the market is the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder.

5. You need waterproof mascara and eyeliner but that’s a no-brainer. One of our go-to liner is Bobbi brown’s long-wear gel liner in black ink. It has a smooth, clean finish which is ideal for the perfect smudge-proof winged liner.

6. Last, but not least, a lightweight setting spray adds the finishing touch. It creates a fresh and vibrant feel, which helps the make up come together whilst increasing longevity. Urban Decay setting sprays have truly won us over.

We’re confident that if you follow these steps you’ll master the lasting power of your makeup on a bright, summer day!

We would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on our recommendations and if you tried other methods that have worked for you we’d love to know those too.
