Two Reasons I Forgot To Blog This Weekend

Okay, I didn’t quite forget.

You might have noticed I broke my 27 day writing streak this weekend. Sorry about that!

A couple of reasons contributed to not blogging the past two days. First, it just stinks to write up a loss. Our BK Forward side were beaten 4–2 by Nyköping on Saturday.

After going 1–0 down, we exchanged some frank halftime words then briefly turned the match around, going 2–1 up soon after. All was going well. But we let our opponents back in it and they took full advantage, scoring a couple of quick goals and eventually winning 4–2. Then, I really wasn’t in the mood for posting.

Result aside, it was a proud day having family in the stands. Soph and Jonny, Casey and Kristen all sat in the black wooden BK Forward home seats cheering us on until the end. I even managed to bag an equaliser in front of them just after half time and see them celebrating the goal — a moment I’ll cherish regardless of the final score.

“Well, you just need to take the positives out of today and all do what you did in that 20 minutes after halftime for the rest of the season,” assessed my sister Sophie after the final whistle. Wise words!

Leeds and Chicago to Örebro, Sweden; it’s always special having family in the stands. Thanks for watching!

Meanwhile, on a field not far away, Sara was scoring twice in a 4–1 win for her team — also witnessed by the intrepid Casey and Kristen, who made it to both matches!

The second, better reason I didn’t update the blog over the weekend was to make the most of our final days with our siblings in town!

On Saturday, we raised a glass to Kristen’s 30th, my early birthday, and an overall magical week getting to know each other better while all together in Sweden. Soph and my brother-in-law Jonny hadn’t met Casey and Kristen (Sara’s bro and sister-in-law) before this trip, so to host everyone in our adopted Örebro home and watch them become friends was as heartwarming as the hot Swedish meatballs we all enjoyed at Lilla Örebro the first night they arrived.

FaceTime’s amazing, but it was unbelievably nice to have everyone in the same room for once to chat face-to-(real)-face. That’s when you get enough downtime to chill out and talk nonsense and laugh — the good stuff. And to talk deeper too.

Sara and I don’t exactly know what our long term future holds, so we’re lucky to have a squad of older brothers and sisters to look up to and bounce ideas with. You guys really are the best!

Sunday we took the train to Stockholm and did our best to show off the big, beautiful city. We biked around Djurgården, coffeed in Gamla Stan, lunched by the water’s edge on sunny Strandvägen, thought about a museum tour but decided against it, checked out the palace, went for oysters and pizza, took a well-earned nap and then went for a delicious last supper in Östermalm. We were tired and happy and full.

Stockholm day!

The perfect Stockholm weather made for a perfect last day though, which ended with a competitive homemade pinball game we found in the hotel lobby. While Jonny turned out to be annoyingly good at the pinball, even his deserved double-victory couldn’t tarnish what was an unforgettable, possibly once-in-a-lifetime trip with all of our sisters and brothers together! Thanks again for coming folks and get home safe!

Now, back to training tonight to commit to a new week of hard work to turn our fortunes around.
