We’ve all heard the saying that goes something like “follow your dreams and you’ll never work a day in your life”, but we also know that it can be easy to doubt ourselves in actually bringing that statement to life.

“A lot of the time we can doubt ourselves when it comes to pursuing our passion.”

For people outside of capital cities, breaking into the music industry and knowing how to get started can be pretty tough. GRID Series is an artist development program we support at Belong that helps emerging musicians and strengthens communities through music.

“Programs like GRID are very important for the Australian music scene because it gives artists outside the city a lot of opportunity.”

Claire Mooney, GRID Series Coordinator

The program connects people like Argatu with the knowledge, contacts and experience to kickstart their careers and contribute to the music scene in their communities.

“The training, workshops and one on one sessions are really valuable. A lot of people can’t really afford that so I think programs like this, particularly for the youth is really important and beneficial for our community.”

GRID Series have just kicked off their Western Sydney program with the announcement of their next four participants. They’ve already swung into action with a mentoring seminar and song development sessions underway.
