A Dream Becoming Reality Yet More Work To Do

I sat nervously and fully immersed in the massive monitor as the perinatology ultrasound was underway, completely in awe at the technological advances and the ability to see our son moving around like a gymnast in our surrogate. The monitor lit up with flashes of blue and orange as the specialist checked for proper heart functions while I said little prayers that our firstborn would be healthy. A couple of tears ran down my face as I watched in awe, that a dream I’d held for decades was finally coming true, that I would soon be a dad.

In our 6th month of pregnancy, we attend the appointments with our surrogate to make sure she’s doing well and we are involved in the pregnancy. It’s also easier to be able to ask questions as they arise with the medical experts versus doing it via relay. The weeks and months are flying by, as they tend to do, but now we have something to measure it by. Our son is growing a lot and with each appointment, he becomes more of a reality. It’s still surreal that it’s happening and part of the reason why I don’t mind flying to make these appointments is to make it more real.
