As we open the door to the unknown in the New Year, we reflect on what transpired this last year. For some it was a great year and they have much to look forward to. They plan to carry good fortune into the new year. For others it was a good riddance to the wretched year that has passed and there’s no looking back.

The New Year brings promising opportunities, fresh starts, and hope. For me, the new year is bittersweet. It is wonderful and joyous but it is also terribly grievous.

The precursor to the new year is the end of the previous year.

How we approach the end of the year might affect how we will fare in the following year.

Some throw caution to the wind and get out the last hoorah with a promise that they will do better in the new year.

Others use the opportunity as a saving grace to right the wrongs before the new year starts. They go on an apology tour hoping to leave the previous year with forgiveness. They want to be guilt free and have that finality that the end of the year brings. End of year holidays are a great segue to redemption.
