My spouse and I are retired. He retired for six years ago. I early retired three years ago. We have been married for decades. Literally, I mean decades.
When we were young adults with children, we sought spontaneous sex as often as we could. You never knew when another opportunity would be available. The kids sucked up all the available energy leaving us tired in the evenings. We were the adventurous people who would sneak off anytime we had a babysitter to “tear one-off.” Sometimes our behavior was closer to teenagers than an adult couple. We were found in private but uncomfortable places, and we contorted ourselves as needed to make it happen. Once we got home, we turned back into responsible parents.
Now that we are older, we laugh at the antics of our younger selves. We cannot be genuinely spontaneous because we are risk-averse. We declare our intentions early in the day so our partner can prepare. Without advanced notice, one of us could snore before the other person acts. Most sex is agreed to in advance and…
