Does God tell you to hit kids?

Many seem to think “Spare the rod, spoil the child” is in the Bible.

Surely it’s right there in Proverbs 13:24? “He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.” That got cut down to: ‘spare the rod, spoil the child’. The immortal phrase not even in the Bible is believed by Christians everywhere. God says to hit kids!— or you…
