Did Evangelicals think a painter was a prophet?

I’m still puzzled by the Christian story of Thomas Kinkade, the painter who rose to superstardom in the 1990s by saying he was—a prophet of God?

His paintings were typically of English country cottages. But he had a spiel about how they radiated a divine light. “My paintings are messengers of God’s love,” he told Christianity Today.
