I compare writing stories with cooking. Selected ingredients mixed with appropriate spices and given perfect cooking time makes a delicacy. The ingredients of my stories come from the memories and day to day experiences of myself or family and friends. I must admit that sometimes I steal personal experiences of friends and co-travellers too, to add spices in my stories. But cooking a story is always an amazing experience - a writer may not be able to cook a story every day, though that is ideal. Also a writer cannot use all the ingredients and spices in one dish. Remember — correct ingredients added with correct spices and perfect cooking time makes a story a delicacy.
This story is a snippet of the life of Bengali women who had to migrate from Eastern Bengal to West facing the horror of 1947 partition. Even though traumatized, they were trying to stick to their cultural tradition after being uprooted from the environment they once knew to be their own.

Don’t all migrants in their first generation do the same everywhere? Their second generation may not always be very keen to stick to the lifestyle of their parents. Sometimes they may be sceptical to believe all the stories they hear from their parents. Yet when it comes to retaining memories of their past, they pass those to their offsprings too .
