Meal Amigo Celebrates 1st Anniversary

Benilde Prize 3.0 Meal Amigo celebrated their 1st anniversary last November 23, 2019. To celebrate, they gave our free squash lomi to children in their Gawad Kalinga community.

Meal Amigo, a food business based in the Gawad Kalinga Kusina ng Kalinga in Butuan City is currently run by Mecca Arban and Laya Montecalvo. The enterprise is the winner of Benilde Prize 3.0 from the Father Saturnino Urios University. The idea was previously a healthy lunch box business for children in their city. But after 6 months of mentorship under the Incubation Ignition Program of Benilde HiFi, they were able to pivot into a stronger and agile business model. And now, we are so happy to see the business celebrate its first full year of operation.

In one year, they have been able to provide kitchen management, cookery, sanitation and production training from their initial training with product development mentor chef Kesiah Jacinto, to four Gawad Kalinga mothers who they have employed and given stable jobs this past year.

Although still young, the future continues to shine bright for Meal Amigo!
