UPDATE: I am back in college. Read here.

Yaay! We made it — The 11th Set

Well, the period between June 20th — June 26th, aroused many feelings, some of happiness, some of anxiety and some of indifference. It was the convocation season for the 11th set (check us out on Twitter) of Covenant University graduates.

Well, I did turn up (at least I hope I did)… you be the judge (pictures at the end)

Now, I have left the four-walls of the University, what next? — nobody, should even ask me this question!, because, I don’t know!!!

I had tried to put some things in order while I was an undergrad…For instance:

  1. I networked aggressively — with peers, juniors, entrepreneurs, top executives at companies, possible employers et al. As a result, I have over 500+ connections on LinkedIn and about 1.6K followers on Twitter.
  2. I got good grades — at least I didn’t fail. I actually made a first class degree (to God alone be all the Glory).
  3. I did internships — in like 3 different companies (KPMG, Softcom, Andela) before I graduated.
  4. Acquired a few skills (soft and hard) as well as got some leadership experiences.

So why the question?

Time and chance has a way of overtaking us.

Eccl 9:11 puts it thus:

I again saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift and the battle is not to the warriors, and neither is bread to the wise nor wealth to the discerning nor favor to men of ability; for time and chance overtake them all.

My Resolution

There are a few things that would keep me through the uncertainty of the future.

  1. Constant Learning: I refuse to drop my intellectual eyes at the front of the school gate. Constantly, learning would help me stay relevant and marketable (which would be useful at point 4).
  2. Association with ambitious friends: Hopefully, they would provide me the necessary ginger. Also, they could help alert when opportunities arise.
  3. Live in the Moment: I refuse to let tomorrow’s worry blind my eyes to today’s happiness. I’d be sure to make good use of the time spent with people, family, friends and other loved ones.
  4. Get a side hustle: What else would pay the bills?
  5. Career planning: Prayerfully, decide a career path and strategize on how my current experiences (paid & unpaid) would add up to making it a reality.

Matt 6:26 highlights:

Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns — and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Phil 4:6 reassures me:

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

No, I would not be scared…who being scared don epp?

I think many of my friends should also adopt the approach of not being scared but instead, making each day count, by doing things that add up to a bigger goal.

It’s okay not to be able to see the entire sky…so long, I keep moving forward, new phases would unfold to me.
