2021 Web Design Trend Report
2020 was a wild ride. The BentoBox design team is looking forward to 2021 web design trends. Looking back at 2020 and the trends that happened, we compiled a list of our top trends that will dominate the web design world in 2021. We look forward to exploring these trends in our own designs and hope you are inspired by them as well!
Natural color palettes
There has been a shift towards a more natural and organic aesthetic throughout multiple mediums. It would be odd if web design trends didn’t follow along and find its own version of this trend. Muted colors is a great example of a more natural and organic approach to the design as it tones down the website and lets the content speak for itself.
A shift towards the dark side
Unlike muted colors dark mode presents a more striking web page. The dark background allows for more of the design elements to be showcased.
Plain ol’ type
Sometimes the best way to get a message across is to just say it plainly. Bold typography is sure to catch quickly scrolling eyes. Many designs, from packaging to social media posts, are sharing their message with thoughtful typographic choices.
Retro typography
Fads go in and out of style. Retro typography has once again become popular. Instead of seeing the same tired fonts we are used to, we are seeing fonts with more style and character. They feel more experimental and engaging than simple sans serifs. Retro font can help bring your design into the modern age.
Utilizing typography as hero art
In the world of web design we are used to seeing sites that have a focus on photography. This year though, we will see a shift where there is a focus on typography, and more specifically, in the hero space. This presents an opportunity for a brand or company to express their personality and present a strong message to their consumer.
Grid Layouts
Grids will be seen in 2021 due to their flexibility to create layouts that are complex but simple to digest. They allow for the sites content to feel organized, and even provide an opportunity for color blocking. Depending on the grid stroke, the site could evoke very different vibes. For example, a light stroke may seem more elegant vs a bolder stroke that may give off a more playful vibe.
3D Visuals
3D visuals have come a long way. Not only have they become more accessible, they’re also becoming easier to create. 3d visuals allow you to create a complete customizable environment all while being able to fully manipulate it to fit your layout. If you can dream it, you can create it!
