The world of Google Fonts can be overwhelming, even for a designer. With the vast landscape of san serif, serif and display fonts, knowing where to start can be difficult. At BentoBox, we frequently run into scenarios where we’re given the opportunity to choose google fonts for our customers. Based on this experience, we wanted to create a recurring series that would inspire and inform our medium community on good font pairings for specific restaurant concepts.

We hope you enjoy the read, and look forward to the next round of pairings.

Oswald & Nunito Sans

Oswald is a bold and condensed typeface that feels clean and modern, but yet, still has some fun touches to it. Pairing that along with the well balanced Nunito Sans, would compliment any causal Steakhouse nicely.

Quattrocento & Alice

The Quattrocento typeface is a classic and elegant typeface with wide and open letterforms. It looks great on display and easily eye-catching. Combining that with Alice, a soft and old-fashioned typeface with very easy to read features, allows the important text to stand out and all additional copy to be easily digestible, perfect for a Fine Dining Steakhouse concept.

Bubblegum Sans & Quicksand

The playfulness and unique touches in Bubblegum Sans contrasts perfectly with the clean and rounded Quicksand to create a nice font pairing for your local neighborhood Sushi corner.

Syne Bold & Syne Regular

The various alterations in style and thickness as you adjust the weights of the Syne font is just absolutely beautiful. Because of this, pairing the two together to create a font pairing for a fine dining Sushi establishment felt appropriate.

Roboto Slab & Rubik

A thick, slab serif font like Roboto Slab brings a casual vibe for a sports bar restaurant. Rubik is a great sans serif complement to the slab because of its slightly rounded corners.

Cormorant & Nanum Myeongjo

The elegant Cormorant serif font is a great option for a swanky or fine dining cocktail bar. Pairing the serif font Nanum Myeongjo for the body text radiates a classic, timeless feel.

Acme & Quicksand

Acme is a bold san serif with playful angles which compliment the simple structure of the paired sans serif font, Quicksand. It’s a playful font combination that captures a casual setting for a Thai eatery.

Tenor Sans & Barlow

The sleek Tenor Sans brings a sophisticated but interesting feel with the varying stroke width. Paired with Barlow, a minimalistic sans serif, the combination brings a sense of refinement which is perfect for a Thai fine dining establishment.

Ultra & Outfit

Ultra is a bold, slab serif that was inspired by wood carvings. Its dynamic letterforms set the perfect stage for a simple geometric san serif like outfit. The versatility and vintage look and feel of this pairing feels perfect for a casual BBQ concept.

Zilla Slab & Josefin Sans

Zilla slab is a contemporary slab serif that showcases smooth curves for a surprisingly sophisticated look. Paired with a more geometric san serif like Josefin Sans, more specifically a lighter weight of it, can create an elegant yet vintage style that would be perfect for a BBQ fine dining concept.

Paytone One & Comfortaa

The large counters and slanted edges of the display font, Paytone One, pairs perfectly with the rounded geometric san serif, Comfortaa. Both presenting casual yet bold personalities, these fonts would create the perfect pairing for a casual taqueria concept.

Fjalla One & Radley

Fjalla One is a medium-contrast display san serif that creates a statement with its condensed characters and clean lines. Combined with the elegant and more traditional serif, Radley, these two are a perfect pairing for a fine dining taqueria concept.
