With Halloween right around the corner, it’s the perfect time for our team to create spooky tarot cards. The tarot card and accompanying box design feature a cocktail from each designer’s chosen BentoBox restaurant. A tarot reading with these decks could help guests take a chance on their drink order and see which cocktail will be in their future.

Sinners y Santos is a gothic-inspired craft cocktail lounge located in Los Angeles and it’s housed inside a replica of a decrepit Spanish church. Definitely the place to go if you’re in a party mood and ready for a wild night.

They have great branding and an infinite amount of assets which makes this exercise so easy and fun to work with. I focused on church elements for the card since it’s the main aesthetic of the lounge, and kept the design clean and elegant.

When I was looking at their cocktail menu, Forget Me Not was the first one that caught my attention. Not only is it a great name for a drink, but the combination of Belvedere vodka, mandarin orange puree, coconut cream and lychee nectar sounds delicious and deserving of the Holy Grail association.

Betelgeuse Betelgeuse is a pizza and cocktail bar in Houston, Texas. The name was inspired by the Betelgeuse supergiant star in the Orion constellation. Their dark, space-themed branding was the perfect inspiration for a cosmically spooky tarot card!

I combined elements of a traditional tarot design with the bold, graphic style of Betelgeuse Betelgeuse. I used their misshapen stars, pizza scales, and background dragon tail mirrored in the corners like the symmetry typically seen in tarot cards.

I chose Betelgeuse’s “Cosmonaut” cocktail for my card. With added orange vodka and pomegranate, it’s a fun twist on a traditional Cosmo in ingredients and in name.

The Drifter is a speakeasy style bar in the heart of Chicago. The bar features over 100 custom cocktails that each reference a specific tarot card. You can be assured of a unique experience every time you visit as each night the staff pull tarot of their own to decide the menu! Their dark and spooky branding mixed with the tarot theme made The Drifter an easy choice.

I chose to represent The Lovers tarot card for them as I think it would be the perfect date night spot. The lively, but macabre dancer and skeleton logo juxtapose the lovers on the card, making the connection complete. I also pulled their intricate borders used throughout the site to help bring in more character and elegance.

If I had to choose what cocktail they might make to represent The Lovers, I think I’d choose something dark, full bodied, and not too sweet. A Bourbon Manhattan with a thin orange peel and a cherry would fit the bill perfectly.

If you’re in search of a unique blend of mixology and mysticism, look no further than Death & Co, a renowned cocktail bar situated in New York City, which has gained recognition for its innovative and upscale approach to crafting cocktails.

Death & Co’s branding presents a dark and moody vibe with its deep, rich color palette and ornate fonts. My design explores utilizing the brand border assets and textures seen throughout the website, which created the perfect canvas for our main scorpion image to represent one of their standout cocktails, “The Scorpion Sting.”

The Scorpion Sting is a thrilling blend of Don Fulano Reposado Tequila, Jambuzera Cachaça, Passionfruit, Lime, and Fernet. Its fiery name felt both daring and inviting, much like the cards themselves.
