As the Paris Olympics draw to a close, let’s take a moment to dive into the captivating world of the Paris Olympic brand identity. Considering our customer base — restaurants — it got us thinking: what if one of our restaurant brands were headed to the Olympics? How would its brand evolve if infused with the dynamic visual identity of the Games?

With that intriguing idea, we’ve selected two concepts from Indigo Road Hospitality Group. Join us as we explore how these restaurant brands could be reimagined and transformed, inspired by the spirit and design of The Look of the Games.

I chose to work with O-Ku, which is a multi location upscale Japanese restaurant and sushi bar. They have very simple branding, mostly just black and white with a strong emphasis on their food and beautiful images of said food on their site. I thought that their tree logo worked well as a featured graphic on a geometric design — starting with the Paris 2024 Look of The Games and building from the letters OKU in a stylized font, I created a collage based on the colors and application of The Look of The Games graphics. I chose to start with the letters to echo the very prominent letter P featured in the original graphic. I wanted to make sure the archways used to define the letters were used throughout and I tried to carry lines across the full width and height of the graphic, weaving in front of and behind other boxes.

Overall I love how this turned out, I’m generally a huge fan of geometric shape collages and the combo of hard lines and corners with gradients and softer colors creates such a nice balance! Immediately I want to explore this same style of graphic with different color palettes.

I chose to work with The Kingstide, Daniel Island’s first and only waterfront restaurant. Drawn by its inspiration from the beautiful, simple flavors of the sea, the restaurant’s secondary logo, along with its coastal location, offered a great foundation for the design. I began by integrating the geometric elements from The Look of The Games, starting with the letterform “K” to nod to Kingstide and stem from the P we see in our inspiration graphic. From there, I seamlessly incorporated their secondary logo — a distinctive anchor and fork — while echoing their coastal concept with a wave pattern. To add depth and layers, I included details like repeated dots, arches, and gradients, which are a hallmark of The Look of The Games.

Overall, I’m thrilled with the final result, which feels in sync with the aesthetic of this year’s Look of the Games while being distinctly tailored to the restaurant’s unique concept.
