What happened during Week 2?

This week we had speaker Errol Arkilic, Founder of M34 Capital, talk to the StEP teams about customer interviews: what they are & what aspects to focus on. The main topics he focused on were the Technology Innovation Spectrum, how we explore the unknown, and how to run an experiment. The presentation ended with an informative Q&A session for those who still had questions.

Recap from Errol Arkilic’s presentation of “How to Run an Experiment”

  • Interact with customers to understand the value of your product
  • Ask them questions
  • Filter the information from people and extract the real value
  • Develop viable product
  • Develop a hypothesis
  • Develop worldview
  • Get very detailed with your feedback and then reconsider the framework

Afterward, we hosted Nalin Chopra, an alumnus from StEP Batch 1 that founded Flipout, an app that allows friends to make sports predictions, compete with friends and earn rewards. Nalin emphasized how important user interviews are, shared best practices on how to get the most out of them and common mistakes he did in the process.

Step 2 has had amazing growth in the number of teams in the community, and we are so excited to share the experience and mission of each team. Team interviews will be coming up soon — we have startups across industries:

  • Law
  • Healthcare
  • Consumer
  • Entertainment and Media
  • FinTech
  • Education
  • Fashion
  • Real Estate

Throughout the next 7 weeks, we will be following each team and getting to know them and their ideas better. Stay tuned to learn more with us through…
