2017 Rosenman Symposium: Bringing together the SF Bay Area’s medical device community
On June 21st, the 2017 BIE cohort attended the Fourth Annual Rosenman Institute Symposium. The Rosenman Institute is a partnership between UC San Francisco and QB3 dedicated to helping medtech entrepreneurs launch successful startups. The cohort heard four presentations from leaders in the field who are forging the way for future medtech innovations. The first speaker was Dr. Steven Hetts, Chief of Interventional Neuroradiology at UCSF. Dr. Hetts spoke about his startup, ChemoFilter, which develops endovascular chemotherapy filtration devices. Next was Justin Roberts, Vice President of Global Marketing for Medtronic Heart Valve Therapies, who talked about TAVR (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement). Afterwards Dr. Robert Gaunt, Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Pittsburgh, presented on the development of neuroprosthetic devices using sensorimotor control. Finally, Richard Rapoza, Division Vice President of Research and Development at Abbott Vascular, spoke about the importance of clinical trial design and its unexpected consequences.
In addition to hearing the presenters, the cohort also heard ‘lightning’ presentations from the ten Rosenman Innovators. These entrepreneurs were selected as finalists for the Medtech Track of the QB3 Life Science Pitch Summits. The companies include AesculaTech, Blumio, Device Farm, Gravitas Medical, Green Sun Medical, Intelligent Implants, Raydiant Oximetry, Siris Medical, Zenflow, and Zeto.
