Safer Medicare Cards Are Coming!

As you have probably realized, for most people, your Medicare number is your Social Security number, with a letter or two inserted after it.

There was no doubt a great reason for this back in 1965 when Medicare started. But in this age of stolen identities, this is no longer a brilliant idea. In fact, it’s a big security risk for anyone who likes to carry their Medicare card with them.

Medicare has decided to fix this. Starting in April 2018, Medicare will be sending beneficiaries replacement cards with new numbers!

The roll-out will happen slowly and take about a year — from April 1 2018 through December 2019.

All Medicare benefits will remain the same. The new numbers are just that — a new number. It won’t mean having to re-enroll in your plans or programs.
