On July 20th 2017 we had Prototyping with Axure and user testing meetup as part of Berlin Lean Prototyping meetup group.

Prototyping challenge

We followed 4 steps(Ideation, Prototype, user testing & Pitch) in our prototyping session. Since it’s a prototyping challenge, we spent most of the time on working with prototyping & user testing. We didn’t spend time on discovery phase or user research.

1. Ideation

Paper and Pen is still the powerful way to sketch out ideas quickly. we spent 15 minutes on sketching out possible design solutions.

2. Prototyping using Axure

Started transforming paper sketches into a testable prototype using Axure RP. It has great features like Adaptive view for mobile prototyping, attach interaction links between pages and options to share prototype as sharable link.

3. User testing

a.UXTesting

Using Axure prototyping shareable link & UXTesting, all teams tested other teams prototypes.
It’s very easy to share prototypes with Testers using the UXTesting token number.

b.CanvasFlip

Axure has the option to export all pages to images, you upload all images to CanvasFlip and create hotspots for interactions, then can invite for user testing using a sharable link.

4. Pitch Session

All teams presented their approach, prototype and finding from user testing. Shared experience using Axure, CanvasFlip & UXTesting.io with all.

Feedback from participants

Fun way to learn a new prototyping tool(s)!” — Emily Ziegelmeyer

Thanks! The meet-up was very informative for me. friendly atmosphere” — Anastasiya Lebedev

Thanks

Thanks Axure, CanvasFlip, UXTesting.io for supporting us and Co.up for sponsoring venue.

Lessons learned

  1. CanvasFlip & UXTesting.io are great tools for get user feedback. These tools are perfect for validate your assumptions.
  2. Axure is not just Wireframe tool, you can create high fidelity prototypes.
  3. With Axure, CanvasFlip & UXTesting you can go through Build Measure Lean cycle quickly for rapid learning.
  4. If you are a designer, it’s easy to learn new prototyping tool, even if you are using other tools. Basic concepts of prototyping tools remain same. Example: Layers, Animation …
  5. Again proved, it is possible to Build Measure Learn within 2 hours!
